Charming, brightly colored and very unusual French Longchamp terre de fer majolica / faience square cabinet / wall plate. It depicts a woman in traditional French regional costume standing by the sea and cliffs holding a basket. Most likely the traditional dress of Normandy, which includes clogs, and the Etretat cliffs and coastline. The technique imitates that of enamel with raised borders around each shape as if holding the color within its boundaries. Longchamp terre de fer was an opaque faieince / earthenware made near Dijon, France. The Longchamp faiencerie is best known for its oyster plates, asparagus servers and wall plaques. Perfect to display on a wall, cupboard, armoire or cabinet. It is clearly marked on the underside Longchamp, Terre de Fer, 3 L. In very good condition with light crazing and minor imperfections as shown. Shipped fully insured with tracking number.

Measurements: 9 1/2" diameter (24 cm) approximately.
