Colorful French Onnaing majolica asparagus plate in shades of green, turquoise, purple and brown on a cream colored ground. It has a shell shaped dressing well and two separate asparagus sections. Perfect for a French country / provence decor setting. The Onnaing pottery originated in northern France near the Belgian border under the direction of Nimy, a Belgian pottery in business since 1789. It was set up to export wares from France to the rest of the world and avoid Belgium's high tariffs. In 1858 the factory was taken over by the Mouzin brothers, Jean Baptiste, his brother Jean Pierre Mouzin and Théophile Lecat. A third Mouzin brother directed the Belgian faiencerie of Wasmuel, hence the similarity of designs between the two factories. In very good used condition with crazing and minor imperfections as shown. Shipped fully insured with tracking number.
Measurements: 9 1/2" plate diameter by 1 1/2" tall approximately.
