Evocative watercolor painting of a rural, thatched roof English cottage done with the restraint, simplicity and looseness of hand of an artist. The mat is inscribed below the image, in hand-written lettering: Sidney Currie fl. 1876-1930. Sidney Currie was a British painter active in Birmingham and later in Worcester in the late 19th to early 20th century. He is known for his portrayal of the English Midlands countryside, mostly rural scenes in Warwickshire (the birthplace of William Shakespeare). He was a member of the Royal Birmingham Society of Artists (RBSA) where his work was exhibited. It comes nicely matted and framed, ready to display and includes a sheet of biographical information taped to the back of the frame. In good used condition with lower left paper tear and toning as shown. Shipped fully insured with tracking number.
