Charming, rustic French faience shallow bowl / deep dish with scalloped borders decorated with a two comedians wearing long nose mask. Most likely inspired by the works of the brilliant early French caricaturist Jacques Callot (1592-1635). Callot was active in Italy and a clear Commedia dell'Arte influence, combined with a taste for the grotesque, can be seen in his work. The central image is surrounded by a decorative border in blue, green, yellow and red. It is marked on the back with initials MC underlined. Perfect for a French Country / Provincial / Provence decor. One of a pair listed separately. In very good condition with crazing, minor imperfections typical of faience and small losses to the underside as shown. Shipped fully insured with tracking number.
Measurements: 9 3/4" diameter by 1 1/4" deep.
