Fabulous Augarten Statue of Diana sculpture / figure designed by Professor Ferdinand Opitz in 1934. It stands on an oval white ceramic base and is marked on the underside: MADE IN AUSTRIA, numbered 1735 R, and stamped with the cobalt blue Augarten Porcelain Manufactory crest and the word Wien. This House Crest of the Babenbergs, the manufactory’s insignia, is the trademark the Vienna Porcelain Manufactory. The figure is also marked on the surface towards the back of the base F. Opitz. Ferdinand Opitz (1885-1960) was a sculptor born in Prague active in Vienna where he lived from 1909 until his death. He was Director of the Sculpture department at the Academy of Applied Arts in Vienna. Professor Opitz is best known of his architectural sculptures and war memorials. The Diana figure was designed in 1934 during the Art Deco period. This model appears in the Augarten figurine catalogue N°7, on page 37, under the title Hunting & Bullfight (Jagd & Stierkampf). An elegant, modern and hard to find piece in very good condition as shown. Shipped fully insured with tracking number.
