Extraordinary lithograph The Letter Writer, Cairo by Louis Hague after David Roberts. It is signed on the plate David Roberts R. A. , L. Haghe Lith. David Roberts R. A. (1796 - 1864) was a Scottish orientalist painter best known for his detailed depictions of Egypt and the Middle East. He became a member of the Royal Academy and enjoyed great success in his lifetime. The subject, artist and lithographer names are written in script, worked into the image, on the bottom edge of the plate. David Roberts worked with lithographer Louis Hague from 1842 to 1849 to produce the plates. He financed his work through subscriptions, which he solicited himself, and subscriber number one was Queen Victoria. Her complete set is still in the Royal Collection. Lithograph comes ready to display in a very nice bird's eye maple frame. In very good used condition, mounted on board with toning as shown. Shipped fully insured with tracking number.
