Handsome French hand colored lithograph of a drummer from the 1st Empire (of Napoleon Bonaparte) on horseback in full dress uniform. It is inscribed TIMBALIER DES GRENADIERS A CHEVAL (1ER EMPIRE). We have also seen a version with the English inscription: Kettle Drummer of the Grenadiers a Cheval of the Guard in Full Dress 1804 . The lithograph is signed lower right on the plate JOB, the initials of French artist and illustrator Jacques Marie Gaston Onfroy de Bréville (1858-1931). His illustrations appeared in several publications including La Vieille Garde impériale (The Old Imperial Guard) and L'Épopée du Costume Militaire Français (The Epic of the French Military Costume). It comes nicely matted and framed ready to display. In good used condition with toning and minor imperfections to frame as shown. Shipped fully insured with tracking number.
