Wedgwood Argenta Ware, Fan pattern, antique English majolica plate from the Aesthetic Movement period. It is decorated with three birds on blossoming branches alternating with upright Japanese style fan shapes on a pale cream ground. The plate is marked on the underside as follows:
Impressed English Registry mark used in the 1868 to 1883 period. In also has various impressed codes M G D (M for June, G most likely the potter's mark and D for the year 1878). WEDGWOOD and hand painted number 2789.
The presence of an English registry mark on the underside tells us this plate was made pre-1884 as it was replaced by registration numbers after 1883. In very good condition with fine crazing typical of majolica and minor imperfections as shown. We have two additional Wedgwood majolica plates from this era listed separately.
