Lovely Japanese papier mache lacquer wall pocket with gilt on black decoration. It depicts two scenes: (1) geishas and a child in an outdoor terrace, and below (2) a group of performers in a garden, pagodas like structures in the background amid vegetation. We have seen similar items described 19th Century, Meiji. It comes with a top perforation from which to hang on the wall. In very good used condition with minor imperfections and crackle typical of papier mache. Shipped fully insured with tracking number.
Measurements: 8 1/2" tall (4 5/8" tall pocket) by 6 1/2" wide by 1 7/8" deep at top of pocket.
