Antique Vesuvius volcano watercolor on laid paper as seen from a high point in the environs of Napoli. It's not the typical view of Vesuvius showing the bay of Naples but an interior, countryside view. On the hillside foreground two goat herders and a dog tend a herd of goats; farther down is an open terrace over large arches with a beautiful view / veduta of Vesuvius. A group of people stand on the belvedere, one of them pointing towards the smoking volcano in the distance, all surrounded by large trees and vegetation. It is painted on antique laid paper with a large Fleur de Lys watermark clearly visible when held against the light. The laid paper is mounted on another, thicker paper which is inscribed by hand, in capital letters, below the image, as follows: VUE DES ENVIRONS DE NAPLES, AUGUSTE, MARS 1822. It comes nicely framed ready to display. In very good used condition with spotting, tears and imperfections to the thicker paper it's mounted on mostly concealed by mat.
