Charming antique original drawing of three children looking out between the bars of a crib entitled ""WILD ANIMALS I HAVE KNOWN". It is signed on the lower left Maria L. Kirk. Maria Louise Kirk (1860-1938) was born in Lancaster, Pennsylvania and attended the Philadelphia School of Design for Women and the Philadelphia Academy of Fine Arts. She illustrated over fifty books in her lifetime including Alice in Wonderland, Heidi, Pinocchio, Favorite Rhymes of Mother Goose. Inscriptions on the page read as follows:

The drawing is done in mixed media including pen, ink and watercolor en grisaille. It comes with a 1906 letter of provenance from the Art Department of The Youth's Companion, Boston Mass. and other related provenance documents. The Youth's Companion 1827–1929) was a children's magazine based in Boston. The drawing is nicely framed and in very good condition, ready to display.
