Extraordinary English antique transfer-printed rectangular octagonal platter decorated in a lovely medium to dark shade of blue. It depicts Italian ruins in a landscape with a river, bridge, cottage, cattle, sheep in the distance, a young man fishing, another dressed in a toga, and two shepherds in the foreground. A floral / berry border surrounds this lovely summer scene. The platter is marked on the underside with an asterisk, Minton's cipher for the year 1842. A similar Minton example of the same period, with a different Italian ruin pattern, is part of the Victoria & Albert collection. In very good used condition with light crazing, toning, small glaze pops, and wear to underside and edges as shown. Shipped professionally packed, fully insured with tracking number.
