Very nice pair of antique Wedgwood majolica green leaf and basket weave border plates. They have a slight iridescence characteristic of Wedgwood majolica and are marked on the back as follows:
WEDGWOOD M (legible on one plate) GBY
The third letter, "Y" in this case, indicates the year of production. The letter "Y" was used by Wedgwood in its majolica in the years 1870, 1896 and 1922. The absence of the word England on the back of these plates tells us they were made before 1909 so we can discount the year 1922. Perfect pair to decorate a country style kitchen, dining room or similar setting. They would look great on a wall or cabinet display by themselves or combined with a different but complementary pair of Copeland majolica green leaf plates listed separately. In very good used condition with crazing typical of majolica as shown. Shipped fully insured with tracking number.
Measurements: 7 7/8" (20 cm) diameter approximately.
