Wonderful embroidered picture on silk memorializing President Theodore Roosevelt's Cruise of the Great White Fleet. The cruise's objective was to project America's power abroad through a strong Navy. This kind of silk work was done in Japan around the turn of the century catering to Western visitors who had them custom made as souvenirs or memorials of their voyage to the Far East. Inscription above embroidered eagle and American Flag reads as follows:
"IN MEMORY OF MY CRUISE IN PHILIPPINES AND CHINA JAPAN"
The framed photograph below shows a young US naval officer in uniform. The Great White Fleet visited the Philippines, Japan and China in 1908, this piece was probably done at that time. Photographed through glass which explains reflections, not inspected out of frame. Embroidery in very good used condition with minor silk splits and later frame. Shipped professionally packed, fully insured with tracking number. Shipping costs are approximate, please provide your zip code so we can find the best shipping option to your location.
