Satirical etchings of Napoleon's life after James Gillray (1756-1815) the father of the political cartoon. After the French revolution, James Gillray's caricatures ridiculed the Jacobins (the most radical French at the time of the French Revolution) and Napoleon I. These caricatures served to foster nationalism among the English as a response to Bonaparte's threat of an invasion to England. The artist name Jas. Gillray del. appears on the left under each image. Other inscriptions read as follows:

LIFE OF BUONAPARTE.

Pl. 1 DEMOCRATIC INNOCENCE.
The young Buonaparte & his wretched Relatives in their native Poverty while FreeBooters in the Island of Corsica.

Pl. 2 DEMOCRATIC HUMILITY.
