Lovely embroidered silk work needlework allegorical picture representing Summer depicting a young maiden in a pastoral setting with her apron full of fruit, leaning against a basket of fruit ready to fall off a Neoclassical style plinth. A sunny subject similar in style and composition to the solemn needlework mourning pictures of the early 1800's. The clothing, trees, basket, ground and plinth are embroidered with long stitches in different directions to achieve different tonalities and the illusion of movement. The face, arms, hands and fruit appear to be painted or printed. In shades of mostly blue, green, brown, beige and off white, with a few loose threads on plinth, losses to fabric on upper right and small imperfections to frame as shown. Comes ready to display in antique, beaded, lovely shade of gilt, wood frame. Picture taken through glass which explains reflections, needlework unexamined out of frame. Shipped fully insured with tracking number.
