Lovely set of four original historical and theatrical costume illustrations hand drawn and painted in gouache on laid paper annotated with costume details in pencil and character names in watercolor. All have a stamped seal that reads as follows:

B. J. Simmons & Co. was a London historical and theatrical costumier, active between the years 1857 to 1964. Each illustration is inscribed by hand as follows:
SK 15-16 Courtiers Act II SK-21 Charles II Act I SK-23 Charles II Act II 30 IV (Whitehall), Rose Shoes, Rose Hose SK-34 De Croissy Act II Whitehall, Blue Breeches
The characters belong to the same era and are related, Charles Colbert, marquis de Croissy (1625 – July 28, 1696) was French ambassador to the Court of St. James in London at the time of the reign of Charles II of England, (1630-1685). All four illustrations are sandwiched between color mats and styrofoam backings. In good used condition with small scratches and imperfections consistent with age and use as shown. Shipped fully insured with tracking number.
Measurements: Mat sizes vary slightly, the largest (green) measures 15 5/8" by 12 7/8"; the other three (pink mats) all are 15" high by 12 3/16 (SK-21), 12 1/2" (SK-23), and 13 3/4" (SK-34) approximately.
