Museum quality horse racing original signed pencil drawing by English artist Henry Thomas Alken (1785-1851) and color etching based on the same drawing. The drawing is inscribed in hand written pencil script above the drawing: 'Ideas . Henry Alken .' and below the drawing: 'I have an Idea that this is our Yeoman Cavalry races & that the Horses are positively rode by the owners.' It is trimmed and mounted on paper with a straight pencil line border. The mount paper has a stamped monogram on the reverse as well as a printed text (most likely cut out from an exhibition catalog) that reads as follows:

Fine finished pencil for one of the "Ideas, Accidental and Incidental". Illustrates the following caption: "I have an Idea that this our Yeoman Cavalry races, & that the Horses are positively rode by the owners." Framed. Height, 7 1/4 inches; width, 8 1/2 inches.
Color etching is also entitled IDEAS and has the same inscription below the image as the drawing with the addition: Hy. Alken, Delt. London, Published by Thos. McLean, 26, Haymarket, May 14th, 1830.
Both drawing and etching come ready to display with handsome red mats (dark red, hard to capture in the photo) and contrasting antique gilt wood frames. Drawing is in very good condition with toning and minor brown spots consistent with age; overall toning and border losses to color etching concealed by mat; small scratches and imperfections to frames as shown.
