Extraordinary equestrian steeplechase bronze sculpture / figure after Isidore Bonheur. Isidore Jules BONHEUR (1827-1901) specialized in the realistic portrayal of animals and was among the most distinguished 19th Century French animalier sculptors. He was the brother of Rosa Bonheur whose best known painting, The Horse Fair, is part of the Metropolitan Museum of Art collection. Isidore Bonheur exhibited his work in the Paris Salon as well as in the Royal Academy of London where his work was in great demand by collectors. This bronze has a beautiful patina, wonderful detail and expression, and is a heavy and substantial piece. In very good used condition with minor patina wear and imperfections as shown.
