Antique 18th century engraving of the American War of Independence Naval Battle of the Quebec & Surveillante by Balthazar Frederic Leizelt after a painting by Richard Paton. Also known as The Action of 6 October 1779, this naval engagement took part in the early stages of the American War of Independence. Inscription in pencil on the reverse reads as follows: Quebec & Surveillante. Paton p. Leizelt sculp. ca. 1780. Printed on laid paper with a watermark visible when held against the light (see last photo). Comes with a new, custom made mat. Engraving has toning, creases, tears, old tape glue, stains and imperfections as shown. Shipped fully insured with tracking number.
