Beautiful antique opaque watercolor / gouache painting of a summer landscape with castle ruins, figures, trees, lake and mountains. On the right, an elegantly dressed couple looks at the ruins of a circular tower of a castle or fortified manor house; towards the center a servant couple stands by a row boat at the edge of a nearby lake; and, to the left, in the foreground two boys are seated on the ground with a fishing pole. All are dressed in typical late 18th Century attire. The gentleman on the right is seen wearing a red frock coat (worn, among others, in England by the conservatives or Tories) and a small powdered wig tied with a black ribbon into a short ponytail. He is pointing at the castle tower with his walking stick. The lady has white hair, most likely also a powdered wig, and is wearing a long pale green gown with a light blue overcoat. The ruins of the circular castle tower have the reddish tint of brick and its windows are round, not the most commonly seen vertical slits or pointed arches. Comes in a gilt frame with beaded border and light blue mat with gold leaf lines and is ready to display. It's protected by an antique wavy glass that adds to its interest. In very good used condition with imperfections and repairs to frame as shown. Shipped fully insured with tracking number.
