Rose Mandarin decorated enamel painting on copper dish with central medallion depicting court life in China surrounded by an intricate pattern of floral scrolls on a predominantly turquoise background with darker blue borders. Surprisingly, enamel on copper painting was first developed in Limoges, France and introduced to China in 1719 by Father Jean-Baptiste Gravenereau. Chinese craftsmen rapidly refined their techniques achieving superior quality standards in a few years. Chinese enameled copper pieces were made in Canton and Peking, decorated in the same style as their porcelain counterparts and were often part of the same sets. Reverse of the plate is painted white and is marked with a seal. In very good used condition with crackle, touch ups and minor imperfections as shown. Shipped fully insured with tracking number.
