Beautiful original watercolor painting and pencil drawing genre portrait of a young Venetian woman with the sun shining on her face. It is signed on the lower left G. Vizzoto Alberti, Venezia. Giuseppe Vizzotto Alberti (Italian, born Oderzo (Treviso) 1862 - died Venice 1931) studied at the Academy of Venice from 1880 to 1886. In 1897, along with V. De Stefani, he painted the ceiling frescoes of the hall of the Palace of the Prefecture in Venice (Palazzo Corner della Ca 'Grande). He was known for his landscape paintings (Fishermen in the lagoon, 1892) and genre scenes in costume. The beauty of this young woman must have captivated him to warrant a non-commissioned portrait. She also appears, in the same dress, in at least one other Vizzotto Alberti painting. He exhibited at the Venice Biennale (1895, In the rain; 1907 Small pianist) and at shows in Udine (1903, Low Tide), Turin (1898, Waters death; 1902 Autumnalia), Milan (1894, Vesper) and Rome (1895, Clouds Cannons). His works have been sold in major international auction houses such as Christie's and Bonham's among others. In very good used condition with overall toning, scratches and imperfections to frame as shown. Additional photos available. It comes ready to display in an antique gilt wood frame.
