Pencil on paper sketch by Benjamin West entitled Prophet. Benjamin West (1738-1820) was an American Neoclassical painter of historical scenes. He was born in Pennsylvania and died in London after an illustrious career that included Royal commissions and presiding the Royal Academy. This drawing is most likely a study of a figure meant to be included in one of his paintings. Gallery label on the reverse of the frame reads as follows: Benjamin West, P.R.A.
