A gentleman, in profile to right, in coat and frilled cravat antique bronzed silhouette portrait by Miers & Field, 111 Strand, London, with trade label, circa 1800. John Miers (1756–1821) is considered the finest 18th Century painter of silhouettes. He operated a very successful business at his London studio. His talent was achieving a perfect likenesses and delicate shading to show detail of hair and clothes. He later associated with John Field who inherited his business. Comes in original rectangular ebonized frame with fine, gilt bronze accents and ring. The name of the sitter and year of death, "Robert To... , died 1833" is handwritten on the reverse of the frame. In good used condition with imperfections as shown. Photo taken through glass which explains reflections. Shipped fully insured with tracking number.
