Extraordinary and very fine antique French burled walnut wood casket / box of serpentine shape with canted corners. It is decorated on the lid with a sprig of naturalistic cast bronze / copper leaves and flowers. It stands of four small bun feet. It is marked TAHAN PARIS on the lock plate, has upper and lower locks but no key. Alphonse Tahan (1830-1880) was master cabinet maker to Emperor Napoleon III and his wife, the Empress Eugénie. In good used condition with repairs, imperfections and staining / tears to original moire silk lining as shown. Shipped fully insured with tracking number.
