Monumental bronze sculpture of pheasants by French animal sculptor Auguste Lechesne. The tall male pheasant with its very long tail standd guard as the female feeds her chicks. The artist's signature 'Lechesne, Sculp' and foundry mark 'L. Martin fondeur' are incised on the ground, close to the edge of the oval base. Auguste Lechesne (1811- 1888) was a French Animalier school sculptor born in Caen, Normandy. The Animaliers were a group of mid-19th century French sculptors who rebelled against Classicism, made naturalistic sculptures of animals who caused a sensation at the time and are still sought after by collectors. In very good used condition with imperfections as shown. Shipped fully insured with tracking number.
