This a small antique, handled, octagon under plate for a small tureen. Done in purple transfer the center design shows a mother with daughter and her dog. The back has the registry mark of 1852, ( 11-4-1852 ) the makers name of J. Holland and another name Carrara (a city in N. W. Italy) in an oval. The reason I know this was an under plate to a tureen is because the person I got this piece from showed me the tureen itself all broken up from being dropped. Such a shame.
Measures eight and a half inches from hand edge to handle edge and seven inches from top edge to bottom edge.
This piece is in good condition for it's age with three flakes off the underside as shown in photos. The pattern under the two handle sections is blurred as shown. This would have been done at time of transferring the print or firing etc. There is also overall age crazing. None of this takes away from this amazing piece from the past and it just displays beautifully.
