This is a rare vintage 1960s sterling silver puffy heart pendant necklace. It has a beautiful repousse lily of the valley floral cluster on both sides of this solid heart. The pendant measures 1 1/8" in length with the bail ring not including the attached jump ring, and the bail ring is marked 925 for silver content. The heart is unmarked and tested positive for sterling silver. The 18 1/4" necklace is made of hand made knotted links that look so perfect with the lilies and is marked 925 for silver content. The French celebrate spring by offering small sprigs of muguet (Lilies of the Valley) as a porte bonheur (good luck charm) to those who hold a special place in their hearts and the sprigs are sold on the streets of French cities on May 1st. In the Victorian language of flowers, legend tells of the affection of a lily of the valley for a nightingale that did not come back to the woods until the flower bloomed in May. Lily-of-the-valley flowers signified the return of happiness. This is a very exquisite and hard to find puffy heart charm for your collection.
