Gem of a nocturnal painting of Italian coast of Naples with Mt Vesuvius by Augusto CORELLI . It is signed at lower right Corelli and dated at lower left Aprile 99 . Sight size is approx. 3 1/2" x 8 1/2" Framed is 9" x 13 3/4" . Very good condition. Well listed painter.
Augusto Corelli (1853-1910)
He studied at the Accademia di San Luca and at the Istituto di belle Arti and subsequently in Naples in the studio of Achille Guerra. He exhibited regularly mostly genre scenes in oil or watercolor in Italy since 1880. Due to his effectual and dramatic renditions and his pleasing colors he had a good reputation in foreign countries.
He belonged to the Viennese group of watercolor artists and was an honorary member of the Munich Secession.
