Large oil on canvas by the well listed NY painter Henry BOESE 1824-1863 but death date also listed on some sites as 1897 . . Signed at lower right H. Boese and ?? (Florence ???) NY
Size is 21 1/2" x 35 1/2" sight and framed is 26" x 40" More detailed view of cows than his typical oil of cows.
Very good condition with mild craquelure. There is a break in canvas in trees of approx. 1/2 inch easily remedied. Tiny loss on side of one cow.
I saw a recent oil by Boese on an online auction site for 7,900.
Henry Boese is known for his early Hudson River landscapes, and portrait work in New York City, 1844 - 1863. Mr. Boese exhibited at the National Academy of Design in 1847, 1857, 1859, and in 1863, he showed the painting "Scene on the Mohawk", NAD, v 1, no.69, p. 72.
