This piece is a vintage shield shaped dress clip dating to the 1930's. It has a filigree setting that is accentuated with black rhinestones. The focal point is a black glass raised cameo. Size is 2 1/8 in width by 2 1/4 inches in length. It is in very good condition. There is some silver stone finish around the cameo. Not sure if this is inherent to the piece or if it has a silver wash originally.
Dress clips were purely ornamental in function. These were a type of pin that first gained prominence in the 1920's worn often in pairs on the neckline or straps of dresses. They lost popularity in the 1950's. Today they can be used to decorate pockets, at the waistline, hats or as hair pieces.
