This is an early small brooch dating to the early 1900's. The raised top portion has a lovely flower taille de epergne design with a stippled background. This raised portion is soldered to a base plate. The closure is an early safety roll over clasp that may have been added at a later date with a T hinge. There is a small ring on the reverse that a fine chain could be added to if desired. Size is 1 inch in diameter. It is in very good condition.
Taille de Epergne ( French for "sparing cut") is a variation of champleve decoration in which engraved lines in the metal base are filled with an opaque enamel usually black.
