This is a lovely Victoria sash pin dating to the late 1800's. It is silver tone with minor finish loss and patina consistent with age. It has a nice open ornate design. Size is 1 3/4 inches in width by 2 3/4 inches in length. The closure is a heavy C clasp.
They were a type of pin used to secure a sash at a lady's hip when the fad of wearing a sash over the shoulder and across the bosom became popular imitation Queen Elizabeth. Most have thick pins stems to allow for penetrating several layers of fabric.
