This is a sterling silver bar pin dating to the early 1900's. There is a row of four opalescent true dragon's breath domed cabochons. The color is a pinkish, coral and blue hues. The closure is a C clasp. It is in very good condition with some patina. Size is 1/4 inch in width by 1 3/4 inches in length.
What collectors know as the “Dragon’s Breath” stone was first used in jewelry manufacture in the early 1900s. Made of glass, it emulates a cross between the Mexican fire opal and jelly opal. Molten metals were added to the glass during manufacture to provide the fiery coloration of these stones. Excerpt from the Aug. 25, 2010 Ruby Lane Blog.
