Sash pins date to the Victorian period. These large ornate pins were used at the waist to secure a sash or belt. They were also used as a closure for a cloak or coat. This pin is a mirror image of swirls. The finish is a darkened Sterling silver metal with a finely ribbed pattern within the swirls. This is a lovely piece in excellent condition. The closure is a sturdy C clasp. Size is 2 1/4 inches in width by 2 1/4 inches in length. The patina is quite heavy both front and back with just the exposed edges on the front showing a little shine. It is hard to tell but the piece may have had a gold wash over it at one time but it may almost all or all gone.
