This is a signed Napier sterling vermeil unusual fur clip dating to the 1930's-1940's. It is designed as three large overlapping leaves. Extending from the center of these leaves are long stemmed small flowers with slightly opened petals. The pronged clip is tight and secure. The frame finish is rose gold vermeil over sterling silver. There are small surface scratches and finish wear. This is a large fur clip measuring 1 7/8 inches in width by 3 1/4 inches in length.
Napier jewelry was founded in 1875 in North Attleboro, Ma. as Whitney and Rice producing silver products such as watch chains. The company became Carpenter and Bliss and moved to Meriden, Conn. After the war, James H. Napier became the company's president. In 1922 the name was changed to the Napier company. In 1999 the company was purchased by Victoria and Company. The plant was closed in 1999. Napier jewelry is still produced today overseas as part of the Jones Apparel Group.
