This is an antique Victorian sash pin dating to the late 1800's. The frame is a dark gold tone brass. The focal point is a faceted amber glass square stone flanked on each side by an open mesh design with a rope frame. At the top and bottom is an ornately open design or scrolls and curls. This sash pin is in good condition with a few discoloration spots consistent with age. Size is 1 3/4 inches in width by 2 3/4 inches in length.
Sash pins were a type of pin used to secure a sash at a lady's hip when the fad of wearing a sash over the shoulder and across the bosom became a popular imitation of Queen Victoria. Most have thick pins stems to allow for penetrating several layers of fabric.
