This is a gorgeous unique ornate Art Nouveau sash pin dating to the late 1800's. This is a large heavy brass piece. The closure is a thick secure C clasp soldered to the frame with a thick straight pin stem. This piece is in very good condition. The center portion is soldered to an open rectangular base. Size is 2 1/8 inches in width by 3 inches in length.
Sash pins were a type of pin used to secure a sash at a lady's hip when the fad of wearing a sash over the shoulder and across the bosom became a popular imitation of Queen Elizabeth. Most have thick pins stems to allow for penetrating several layers of fabric.
