This is a pair of Hobe clip back earrings dating to the 1960's. The focal point is a light green large wavy glass bead encircled with a ring of iridescent green beads alternating with scalloped white disks. The filigree frame has a gold tone finish. The clips are signed Hobe and have the characteristic plastic bar roller designed for comfort. The clips are tight and secure. Size is 1 1/4 inches in width by 1 3/8 inches in length. They are in very good condition.
Hobe jewelry as founded by Jacque Hobe as Hobe Cie, a fine jewelry line in France. The son William Hobe started the American Company in 1927 in Mt Vernon, NY. He was commissioned by Flo Ziegfield to design and manufacturer jewelry for the Ziegfield Follies. Folklore has it that this may have been the beginning of the term costume jewelry. The company continues in business today.
