A small 800 silver dish, hallmarked, with a .833 silver thaler coin in the center that appears to have been in brilliant uncirculated condition when mounted. A really beautiful coin, dated 1780, however we know the coin had to have been struck after 1850 because of the S.F. mark. This type of thaler coin, so well known, was used world wide as both official and unofficial currencies, and has been re-struck with the 1780 date numerous times in various countries. Many of the coins are double struck with additional marks to identify a country, but this coin is clean. There are collectors who specialize in thus coin and have many varieties of restrikes in their collections. This is a novelty dish we think dates from about 1900 to 1930. We have no idea how old the coin is other than it has to be newer than 1850. Solid 800 and 833 silver, weighing 66.84 grams. Measures about 3 and 1/2 inches in diameter. Beautiful!
