Allerton pottery was established in 1831, under a few different names containing Allerton, and continued to make pottery items until about 1942 under the Allerton name. Many 20th century pieces have an Allerton's mark that says established 1831, but those marks were not used until the early part of the 20th century. This piece is unmarked, early, and has a decorating style on his coat bearing the popular orange and green check that was used on many Staffordshire pieces in the mid 19th century (mid 1800s). We estimate this unmarked Allerton piece to date to about 1860. It is in remarkable shape without damage, only some wear to some places in the paint and very little to no crazing. Remarkable! Measures 4 and 3/4 inches tall. He's in his cups and ready for mischief!
