The Hindu deity Vishnu is usually depicted with dark or pale blue skin, and typically has four arms. The arms hold a lotus, mace, coch, and chakra discus. Vishnu is the preserver, part of the Hindu trinity, and is the equivalent of a supreme being. Interestingly, he is often depicted resting on a large multi-headed serpent, with his consort Lakshmi, as "he dreams the universe into existence". This large, heavy brass deity is a wonderful art object. It sits on a thick wooden plinth, the felt bottom of which we restored as the old one had largely worn away. He measures 18 inches tall, and weighs a hefty 10 pounds! Wonderfully detailed.
