A small, very detailed brass censer with a Varada Mudra Buddha perched on top. His hand is pointed to the earth, palm outward. The five extended fingers each represent one of the the five perfections: generosity, morality, patience, concentration and effort. The Varada Mudra stands for compassion and charity. Twenty two additional Buddhas adorn the body of the censer! Fierce beast handles adorn the sides. Embossed seal mark on the bottom. Oxidized to a nice patina. Post republic period we think, has a bit of age to it, perhaps thirty to fifty years. This is a pierced type censer, meaning that to burn incense, you open the top and place incense inside and ignite. You put the top back on and allow incense to smolder and come out of top. Neat fierce animal legs and handles to protect from evil spirits! You are protected and blessed all around with this unique censer. You just can't go astray! Measures 5 and 1/2 inches inches tall, and 4 3/4 inches wide. A very neat Chinese censer!
