The famous Yixing or "purple clay" teapots may date back as far as the Song dynasty (the tenth century). We know this: the clay gets infused with the flavor of the tea making every cup better and better. While there are many variations of the clay, the traditional dark purplish brown is preferred. This elegantly styled teapot has very striking, modern lines, and is hallmarked on both the lid and the body. Finest quality, and the only one like it we have ever seen. Made from clay produced near Yixing, in the eastern Chinese province of Jiangsu. Usable for serving the finest tea or great as an Asian decorative. Highly collectible as well. Measures about 8 and 1/2 inches long and 6 and 1/2 inches tall, perfect condition.
