A small, very detailed gold gilt red brass censer with Buddha perched on top. Buddhistic deities all around, and calligraphy blessings. Seal mark on the bottom. Gold gilding and brass is worn and oxidized to a nice patina; top is darkened by years of exposure to incense vapors. We estimate about 100 years old, late Qing to early republic period. This is a pierced type censer, meaning that to burn incense, you open the top and place lit incense inside. You put the top back on and allow incense to smolder and come out of top. Neat fierce animal legs protect from evil spirits! Measures just over 6 inches inches tall, and 4 3/4 inches wide. A very neat Chinese antique!
