A lovely, vintage carved wooden figure, likely Kwan Yin, of wood and plaster with gold gilding. She is situated on a solid wooden plinth. Her head was probably salvaged from a larger temple style carving. There is substantial, honest wear to her hair and other portions of the piece where she has been handled over time, and fading and wear to the paints. When we acquired the piece, the base was in poor condition with scratching and checking of the finish. We have refinished the base, which was cut from a single solid piece of heavy hardwood. We believe, just based on the condition and finish of the base, that this piece is about forty to fifty years old. It is likely the carving itself is much older. The combination is a very attractive vintage carving on a lovely display base, making a superb and unique decorative! She can be situated any way you desire on the base - she is attached via a peg and she can rotate about the base. The head and base measure 13 1/2" tall combined. Her head alone 10 1/2" is tall. Substantial. Really beautiful!
