This is one of the neatest little incense burners we've found in recent years. It is constructed of cast copper, in the shape of the Japanese Kamakura Daibutsu Buddha, which has had a small incense burner braised to the front. It was then plated with brass to make it a golden color. Over time, a lovely patina has developed where the brass has worn away to reveal the contrasting copper! It seems to add detail to the folds of his robes and to the burner itself. Importantly, the little lid to the burner is still present, making this a truly unusual find. Measures just 3 and 3/4" inches tall. It is in excellent condition, the only flaw we can see is a small casting hole which you have to hunt for near the side of the burner section, from when it was manufactured (shown in pictures). We suspect most of these had these because this is where the burner, which was cast separately, was braised to the body. Circa 1930. Really cool!
