This large bottle makes a statement wherever it is displayed. It's primitive, yet the beautiful Japanese calligraphy on it gives it a wonderful sophistication. These were certainly utility wares when they were produced, but they were extremely well made. Those that have survived are very sought after today both in the western world and in Japan. This heavy bottle measures 10 inches (25.4cm) tall and weighs well over three pounds (1.45Kg), and is in excellent condition. It features the usual imperfections in manufacturing such as glaze spots and the like, and there is some very minor bottom roughness, but this one is top of the line for condition. We've taken very complete pictures. Late Edo period, mid 19th century and very possibly much earlier. Very cool, very old item!
