Here is a very unusual cloisonne item like we've never encountered: this little brown turtle's shell comes off to reveal an enameled compartment suitable for hiding small valuables! The detail and workmanship are excellent, from the many panels of his shell to the flowers that adorn the sides. Gold gilding completes the accents on this well made little piece. He's in excellent shape, with no damage. There are some places in the making where enamel did not cover a few tiny places on the rim under his shell, of no consequence and not visible on display but mentioned for accuracy, please see pictures. The turtle measures 4 5/8 inches long, and about 2 inches tall, and actually looks larger than it sounds.
